Consolidation phase concluded in 2019
Lausanne – On 4 December 2019, the Board of Directors of Alpiq Holding Ltd. appointed André Schnidrig (48) as the new CEO of the Alpiq Group with effect from 1 January 2020. In his role as Head of the Generation International business division, André Schnidrig has been a member of Alpiq’s Executive Board since 1 January 2019. In his previous position as Head of the Renewable Energy Services business unit, which he assumed in July 2015, André Schnidrig successfully and continuously drove forward Alpiq’s Swiss and European business.

André Schnidrig says: “I am really looking forward to the new challenge. As of 2020, together with my team, we want to ensure Alpiq is optimally positioned in a market environment characterised by decarbonisation, decentralisation and digitalisation.” André Schnidrig is a Swiss national, studied physics at ETH Zurich and holds an INSEAD MBA degree. He joined Alpiq on 1 January 2010 after having previously worked for ABB and McKinsey.
Alpiq completes consolidation phase in 2019
With the change of shareholders, the upcoming delisting of the Alpiq shares from the SIX Swiss Exchange and the appointment of the new CEO, Alpiq’s consolidation phase will come to a conclusion at the end of 2019. Chairman of the Board of Directors Jens Alder says: “Together, we have mastered a challenging time at Alpiq. I am delighted that with André Schnidrig, an accomplished and highly committed leadership personality is taking the helm at Alpiq.”
Jens Alder will focus on the chairmanship of the Board of Directors
From 1 January 2020, in his role as Chairman of the Board of Directors, Jens Alder (62) will focus on the strategic management of Alpiq Holding Ltd. At its meeting on 4 December 2019, the entire Alpiq Board of Directors expressed their sincere thanks to Jens Alder for his extensive, additional operational involvement.
Matthias Zwicky to join the Executive Board
On 1 January 2020, Matthias Zwicky (63) will take over as Head of the Generation International business division and join Alpiq’s Executive Board. The Swiss national, who obtained his doctorate in electrical engineering from the ETH, joined Alpiq in March 2003 and is currently Head of the Thermal Power Generation business unit. His new position will enable him to put his excellent knowledge of the European market and his many years of experience in the energy sector to optimal use for the company.
Markus Brokhof is leaving Alpiq
Markus Brokhof (53), a member of the Alpiq Group’s Executive Board and Head of Digital & Commerce, has decided to leave the company on 31 December 2019. During his time at Alpiq, he made a significant contribution towards the success of the company’s energy trading business on the international energy markets. Moreover, he continuously expanded the digital services and the electromobility business. Alpiq thanks Markus Brokhof for his valuable service to the company. André Schnidrig, the designated CEO, will take over the function as Head of Digital & Commerce on an interim basis from 1 January 2020, while the search for a successor is initiated.
Composition of the Alpiq Executive Board from 1 January 2020
As of 1 January 2020, Alpiq’s Executive Board will be constituted as follows: André Schnidrig (CEO and Head of the Digital & Commerce business division ad interim), Thomas Bucher (CFO), Michael Wider (Head of the Generation Switzerland business division), Matthias Zwicky (Head of the Generation International business division).
