The Alpiq Group is represented by two companies in the Czech Republic: ALPIQ ENERGY SE and Alpiq Services CZ s.r.o.. Both are based in Jugmannova Street in Prague.

 

ALPIQ ENERGY SE is one of the largest cross-border electricity traders in Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe and plays a key role in the international market with a growing portfolio of gas offers. The company is a proud member of the Swiss-Czech Chamber of Commerce (HST).

Alpiq Services CZ s.r.o., also known as Alpiq Centre of Excellence, provides intra-group services for many companies within the Alpiq Group. Its goal is to develop knowledge, promote innovation, increase efficiency and effectiveness through the centralisation of services. Thanks to its Shared Services Centre, it is an active member of the Association of Business Service Leaders (ABSL) and contributes to the development and improvement of conditions in the field of shared services in the Czech Republic.

Alpiq Group is one of the largest Swiss investors in the Czech Republic as of 2022, with a strong long-term presence in the Czech market. This is evidenced by its historically massive investments in power generation, power plant modernisation, provision of energy and engineering services, as well as significant activities in energy trading.

In the Czech Republic, the Alpiq Group is represented by two companies: the wholesale company ALPIQ ENERGY SE, which operates on the electricity and gas markets in Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe and offers electricity and gas supplies to Czech companies and the public sector, and Alpiq Services CZ s.r.o., the so-called Alpiq Centre of Excellence, which provides services to other companies in the Group.

The Alpiq Centre of Excellence brings highly qualified and experienced professionals together with young graduates to provide invaluable insight into the workings of state-of-the-art business processes. The combination of selected experts, ideal geographical location and the use of advanced tools allows us to offer a wide range of services.

We pride ourselves on our high level of expertise in key energy trading processes - these include middle office, scheduling and risk management. We provide a wide range of services from IT and finance to HR and other administrative services that are used by Alpiq Group companies across Europe.

In IT, we contribute to the development and evolution of innovative, cutting-edge technology solutions for teams across Europe. Our knowledge of the energy sector and our expertise in new technologies make us a key partner for digitising business processes and supporting new ideas, which we support from the pilot phase through to finished products.

Our Shared Service Centre team of more than 125 professionals from 22 countries guarantees a consistently high standard of service. In our international environment, everyone has the opportunity to contribute by their expertise. Work-life balance

Every company is built on people and we are aware of the need to take care of our people. We strive to make them feel at home with us. We focus on the right balance between work and freetime. Satisfied and engaged people are the foundation of our success.

We invest steadily in our working environment. Quiet relaxation zones in the office serve for relax and create inner well-being. In the active fun zone with ping-pong, darts and table football, we can test our gaming skills or work out on the trapeze and ladders. We also practice yoga together. Then we can relieve our tense muscles in the massage chair.

Yoga and physiotherapy at the workplace are activities that help us to balance the body and mind and put us in a good mood.

Flexible working conditions

We strive to make sure that even employees on maternity leave experience accommodating, equal working conditions. We continue to invite them to company events, such as Children's Day, so that they are still part of the team. We also support employees after parental leave and their return to the workplace – by mutual agreement, we allow them to work flexible hours or work from home. We also reward employees for important life milestones, such as the birth of a child, a wedding and, naturally, for loyalty to the company.

 

Our social responsibility

 

At Alpiq, we are also involved in terms of social responsibility. We focus on three main areas.

We care about the environment

Clean energy

Like many companies, Alpiq is committed to providing affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy sources. We generate electricity from hydro, nuclear and renewable sources. In 2019, we sold our only two coal-fired power plants, Kladno and Zlín, which reduced the carbon footprint of our power plant portfolio by more than 60 percent.

Environmentally friendly recycling

We have been participating in the Green Company project, which primarily focuses on the collection of end-of-life corporate electrical equipment and batteries. Our greenhouse gas emissions for 2023 are 91 g CO2/kWh, a significant decrease compared to 2022, mainly due to a 38% reduction in CCGT - "Combined Cycle Gas Turbine" - production. This is a power generation technology that uses a combination of gas and steam turbines to achieve higher efficiency and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Of course, waste sorting is a common part of our daily life at Alpiq Prague.

Reducing plastic consumption

In recent years, we have replaced water in plastic bottles with long-life water dispensers. This gives employees access to filtered water without increasing plastic consumption. We also do not use disposable plastic utensils in the workplace.

By volunteering we contribute to the environment around us

Not only do we care for nature by taking an ecological approach to waste, but we are also willing to do our bit as humans. A recurring volunteer event that Alpiq organises for its employees is a trip to the Šumava National Park. There, since 2011, we have been helping to build wooden water dams that contribute to the maintenance of the Šumava ecosystems. We also take care of the wetland in Onomyšl with the non-profit organisation Mořkady z.s., where we go to create and maintain ponds every year.

We have also helped with the maintenance of the gardens of Karlštejn, Hrubý Rohozec, Veltrusy and Žleby castles and the animal rescue station in Hrachov with repairs to their grounds.

Charity projects

On the initiative of our employees, we have been supporting non-profit organisations working in the fields of the environment, social sphere and education since 2011. These are areas that are close not only to our employees, but also correspond to the long-term vision of our company.

Each year, we provide assistance to selected organisations in the form of financial and material donations. In addition, whenever possible, individual projects include activities in which our employees can personally participate. We prefer long-term cooperation, thanks to which we are able to understand the needs of our partners well, choose appropriate forms of assistance and organise joint activities in order to bring maximum benefit to the donors and joy to our employees from volunteer events.

The Alpiq Group provides generous funding for charitable projects; the specific implementation, allocation of funds and forms of assistance are decided by the employees. The Donation Ambassador Committee, which is also made up of our employees, oversees compliance with the established rules.
