Green hydrogen from Hydrospider
Alpiq has a stake in the company Hydrospider together with H2 Energy and Linde Switzerland. Since 2020, Hydrospider, together with its partners, the H2-Mobility Switzerland Association and Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility, has successfully established a unique and scalable ecosystem for the procurement, production and logistics, as well as the operation of filling stations for green hydrogen from CO2-free production using renewable hydropower. Hydrospider AG is thus contributing to the decarbonisation of heavy goods transport in Switzerland.
The 2-MW electrolysis plant at Alpiq's run-of-river power station in Niedergösgen (Swiss Canton of Solothurn) can produce up to 300 tonnes of green hydrogen per year, enough to supply 40 to 50 hydrogen trucks or 1,700 hydrogen passenger cars. The plant is the main supplier of the currently 20 hydrogen filling stations in Switzerland, where the fuel cell electric trucks that have already covered more than 11 million kilometres and thus saved more than 8,500 tonnes of CO2 refuel (as of October 2024).
