The 50 MW gas-fired power plant is located in the town of Vercelli in northern Italy. The power plant is a highly flexible Open Cycle Gas Turbine.
The Vercelli power plant was commissioned in 2004 as a Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT). In 2017, it has been transformed in an Open Cycle Gas Turbine (OCGT) in order to increase its flexibility and readiness to provide the electrical grid with Grid Support Services.
In 2024, the plant has been completely renewed to further increase its performances and flexibility. As of today, the plant participate to all the electrical markets and in particular to the Capacity Market and the Ancillary Service Market. This configuration makes it an ideal solution for the emerging challenges on the energy market.
Alpiq Energia Italia is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the power plant.
In 2019, the power station introduced an environmental management system in accordance with the standard UNI EN ISO 14001:2015. The ISO 14001: 2015 certification, which was entrusted to a nationally accredited third-party organisation, guarantees compliance with the prerequisites defined by the standard as well as their correct implementation.
Since 2019, the power plant was certified by Emas (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme). Members of Emas commit to improving their environmental performance and to publishing an environmental statement in which they report on the (direct and indirect) impact on their environment, their environmental performance and environmental targets.
In 2021, the power plant obtained certification in accordance with the ISO 45001:2018 regulation, which mandates the continual improvement of its health and safety management system.
